The Japan Film Makers Union released the 2021 box-office rankings of Japanese movies, and the top three are animation works.
They are “シン・エヴァンゲリオン Theatrical Edition:│▌”, “Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet” and “Belle: The Princess of Dragons and Freckles”.
Last year, a total of 959 films were released in Japan, including 490 domestic films and 469 overseas films.
The total box office of the movie was 161.893 billion yen, an increase of 13% from the previous year’s 143.285 billion yen.
The market share of Japanese domestic films and overseas films is 79.3% and 20.7% respectively.
