The battlefield is devastated in the first stills of the film adaptation of Hemingway’s novel “Across the River and Into the Trees” starring Liev Schreiber.
Schreiber plays Hemingway’s semi-autobiographical character, Thorne Rich Thorneard Cantwell, an American military officer who served in Italy after World War II.
Now he is terminally ill, stoic and indifferent. He went to the old place Venice to hunt ducks, and his encounter with a young woman brought him back to life.
