In the most glorious ten years of Marvel Pictures, James Gunn should be the only director across Marvel and DC.
But his experience is not to be proud of, and it is quite tormenting.
In an interview with the magazine recently, James Gunn recalled being expelled from Marvel and receiving an invitation from DC.
He said that “The Suicide Squad” saved his career, and Marvel didn’t mind him working for DC at the same time.
“Things were a bit out of control during that time. I stayed in my own world and was honest with myself,” James Gunn said.
“I didn’t let it ruin me. I took responsibility for what I did. I really deserve to be scolded for this matter.”
James Gunn felt that taking DC’s The Suicide Squad saved his career.

After that, things started to develop in a good direction, and Marvel hired him back to direct “Guardians of the Galaxy 3.”
“I went to the house of Marvel Pictures CEO Kevin Fitch and sat down to chat with him face to face. I said,’I really want to do this, but you have to know something.’ I told him about this movie. (The Suicide Squad) what it was and what it was like at the time. I am honest about all of this and he understands my choice.”
“At the same time, I have to call (Warner Bros’ Toby Emmerich. I told him that I am completely loyal to “The Suicide Squad”. It doesn’t mean that I will always return to Marvel and never return I went to DC to film. I just want to confess to everyone that I will go all out for every movie, whether it’s Marvel or DC movies.”

James Gunn’s expulsion from Disney review:
In July 2018, Disney expelled its directorship of “Guardians of the Galaxy 3” and severed all business dealings with James Gunn for his suspected pedophile tweets from 2008-2009.
In October of that year, Warner threw an olive branch and invited him to direct DC “The Suicide Squad”.
In March 2019, Disney was persuaded by James Gunn’s public apology and subsequent handling, and finally decided to resume Gunn’s directorship of “Guardians of the Galaxy 3”.
