Disney announced on May 30 that its live-action film ‘Pinocchio’ will star Nigerian-British actress Cynthia Erivo as “Blue Fairy.”
This is the first time since the birth of “Pinocchio” that a black person has played the role of a fairy, and this role has previously been played and known as a light-skinned person.
What is even more unexpected is that in the promotional film released by Disney, the fairy adopts a bald head shape, which is also the first time in history!
European netizens complained that this is not Blue Fairy, it is “Voldemort’s play”.
In “Pinocchio”, after the carpenter Geppetto made “Pinocchio”, Blue Fairy brought the puppet to life through magic.
Meanwhile, Blue Fairy tells Pinocchio that he has to be honest, brave, and if he lies, his nose will grow.
Erivo is actually a very powerful actress who has been nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. She also won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and the Emmy Awards for Best Musical Performance for her musical “The Color Purple”.

But such a very different image to play Blue Fairy is still unacceptable to a large number of European and American audiences.
An audience member said: “If I were Pinocchio, I wouldn’t need your blessing.”
Disney’s version of “Pinocchio” has a very strong lineup, directed by Willox Robert Willox Zemeckis of the Oscar-winning “Forrest Gump”, and the carpenter Geppetto also starred by actor Tom Hanks.
In recent years, Disney has run wild on the political road. Shortly before this, Disney also announced that Snow White in the live-action film “Snow White” will be played by a Latino actor.
