‘Catherine, Called Birdy’ is based on Karen Cushman’s novel starring Bella Ramsey, Billie Piper, Andrew Scott, Joe Alwyn, and Dean-Charles Chapman.

The film follows the adventures of Catherine, a young girl in medieval England: her father, who arranged her marriage, is determined to marry her to a rich man, regardless of any other qualities.

With wit, subterfuge and luck, Catherine manages to get a few prospective husbands to leave. She then meets a bearded suitor from the north who is by far the oldest, ugliest and most offensive – and unfortunately, the richest.

Would a sharp-tongued, spirited, intelligent, opinionated young girl really lose a battle against a rude, pig-like aristocrat and an unimaginative, greedy father?
