The new film ‘AIR’ starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon released a trailer for the opening of a business battle in the sports world.
‘AIR’ focus on how Nike signed (rookie period) basketball superstar Michael Jordan back then, opening the classic case of basketball shoes brand. Familiar flying man logo & retro sneakers also made an appearance.
The film opens in Northern America on April 5, followed by an Amazon streaming launch.
Affleck directed, and with and Damon as the star, writer, producer, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker and other appearances.
Damon as Sonny Vaccaro, former Nike sales executive, and Affleck as Nike co-founder Phil Knight, follows Nike’s long-term efforts in the mid-1980s to sign rising superstar – basketball player Michael Jordan – to the the number three shoe company at the time.
An endorsement that seemed impossible at the time, but thanks to maverick sneaker salesman Vaccaro, it would become the most important relationship between a sports brand and an athlete.
The deal unlocked the multi-billion dollar contemporary athletic shoe industry and helped make basketball the same.
At the heart of the film is Vaccaro’s relentless quest to sign Jordan, who will reach out to multiple people close to the latter – family members, especially a strong, vibrant mother, as well as former coaches, advisors and friends – in order to sign Jordan, who will not appear as a character in the film.
