“Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” Review : Another family adventure movie with a warm and old-fashioned plot

As the final chapter of the “Hotel Transylvania” series of films, “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” has officially launched on the streaming media on January 14, 2022.

As a series of movies, it is really surprising that this movie chooses to go live on streaming media when the previous films have achieved good box office results.

After all, the first global box office of “Hotel Transylvania” reached $358 million. And then the other two films, relying on the foundation of the first film, the box office is also rising.

“Hotel Transylvania 2” grossed $473 million worldwide and “Hotel Transylvania 3” grossed $528 million.

So, putting aside the “box office” factor, what is the quality of “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” as the final chapter of the series?

01 Dracula and Jonathan “swap identities” and start a big adventure

“Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” tells the story of Dracula’s desire to hand over the management of the hotel to Mavis and Jonathan.

But at the last minute, Dracula abandoned the plan because he didn’t trust Jonathan, his son-in-law.

And Jonathan thought it was because he wasn’t a monster that Dracula didn’t give him the traveler.

He then transformed himself into a monster and Dracula into a human with the help of Van Helsing.

In order to “return” and make Jonathan become a human and make himself a monster again, Dracula and Jonathan set off to Africa together, looking for a radiation gem that can make them “return”.

In the end, with the help of everyone, Dracula and Jonathan successfully “returned”. Dracula also opened up to Jonathan during this adventure and gave him the travel society.

02 Compared with the first and second parts, “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” is actually “inadequate”

For the evaluation of “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania”, it can only be described as “less than the best, more than the bottom”.

And “deficiency in comparison” naturally refers to the comparison of the first and second parts of “Hotel Transylvania”.

After all, in the plot of this movie, it uses “transformation and empathy” and “big adventure” to connect the plot. In fact, there is not much novelty and it is very conventional.

And there is another point, that is, the film focuses too much on the two characters “Dracula and Jonathan”, so that other monsters are rarely featured, and the film’s laughs are correspondingly much less.

Then there is its soundtrack. Compared with the popular songs selected in the first and second parts, the songs of this movie did not leave much impression on the audience.

03 Compared with the third part, “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” is actually “more than”

Although “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” is “inadequate” compared to the first and second parts, but compared to the third part, it is actually “more than the next”.

After all, compared to the third plot, which basically has nothing to do with “Elf Hotel”, the plot of this movie revolves around “the right to operate the “Elf Hotel”.

And compared to the plot bugs of the third film, although this movie is cliché, the bugs are relatively few.

After all, in the third movie, the setting of falling in love with the enemy’s granddaughter and the once-in-a-lifetime “zing” makes people feel very contradictory.

And although the fourth part is nothing new and clichéd, it doesn’t have such a problem.

Overall, “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” is not an excellent work in my opinion.

After all, whether it’s a “transposition” or a “big adventure” plot, it has appeared in many movies. It seems to be nothing new and cliché, and it is suspected of perfunctory audiences.

But as the final chapter in the “Hotel Transylvania” series, “Hotel Transylvania : Transformania” can still contribute a decade later. For this, it must be affirmed anyway.
