At the opening of the 70th San Sebastian International Film Festival, Juliette Binoche (‘Trois couleurs: Bleu’ ‘Les amants du Pont-Neuf’ ‘The English Patient’ ‘Copie conforme’) was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by director Isabel Coixet Castillo.
In her acceptance speech, Binoche expressed her gratitude to her family, friends, colleagues and San Sebastian.
In addition, the acceptance speech included a wonderful statement – “I would also like to thank my faithful traveling companion: silence. Silence is a real presence. Before shooting and performing, silence was a force from which I derived emotion and perception, and which emerged without any willfulness. However, once there is no silence, there are no words. Without silence, there is also no spirit. When the director, the actors, and the film crew share a silence, a golden thread is woven and is able to run through the entire film. This is how all the meaning of my dream to be an actor can be reflected in a living production.”
