Today I say a suspenseful thriller movie “Old”.
The script of the film is inspired by the French comic “Sandcastle”, which tells about 13 people unable to leave a mysterious secluded beach.
And hidden on this beach is a dark secret involving time.
Although it is a horror movie, “Old” does not have any bloody or visually intuitive horror scenes, but it feels creepy many times.
Aging itself is already scary, let alone it happens very quickly?
If you have to go through a whole life in one day, life will end in a hurry before you have time to enjoy and taste, your beauty will be fleeting, and your loved ones will leave one by one…
There is no need to go bloody or deliberately scary, rapid aging is scary enough in itself.
Most of the previous horror movies were three scary points: ghosts, monsters, and aliens.
And the idea of scaring people with rapid aging is novel, and it also makes people realize: Why hasn’t anyone been shooting like this for a long time?
“Old” shows a variety of terrifying and novel ways to die, which are relatively rare in previous horror movies.
For example, being stabbed by a rusty knife can cause blood infection, but the presentation is slightly exaggerated.
And some plots of “Old” are still a bit exciting.
For example, a tumor was pulled out with bare hands, a mentally ill person stabs someone with a knife frantically, from pregnancy to childbirth within an hour, we can see a few of us yelling.
Although “Old” takes a normal time, which is more than 100 minutes in normal time, it feels like it has been watched for a long time.
It should be a long time for the beginning of the preparation. It took a few plots of a family of four to get along before entering the beach, so it feels procrastinated.
At the same time, I also feel that the director wants to express too much.
For example, the impact of parental quarrels on children. When the son grows up and enters into an intimate relationship with others, he blames the parents: at least we will not quarrel like you do.
Life is short, and time should be put on the right person, as the protagonist couple and the woman suffering from epilepsy have proved this.
Paying too much attention to appearance will only make people confused. The doctor’s beautiful wife proved this.
In the end, I also used this island to point out unscrupulous drug factories’ reckless testing experiments.
It is a pity that many of these rational expressions are only superficial, allowing the audience to see through it at a glance, and there is no empathy or deep thinking.
“Old” also made many bold assumptions, such as what happens when children grow up suddenly, and whether their thinking and brain growth can keep up with their bodies?
Even if all kinds of cells grow and hormones are secreted, what will they do if they don’t have any life experience?
Speaking of this, I would like to mention that, just like many adults who are still doing stupid things.
Regardless of the maturity of the body and brain, but without the experience of life, it is still impossible to truly mature.
The most commendable thing about “Old” is definitely the precisely scheduled photography and sound effects.
Use shot scheduling to let the audience “actually watch” the passage of time, or use it to understand the reactions and discussions of these people at the moment of the event.
Sometimes it rotates, sometimes it pans but swings left and right, like watching the direction of the timeline, unable to look back.
What I like most is the lens that my mother found out that she could not hear one ear. It fits the left and right swing and the sound/silent setting, which can be seen at a glance without any explanation.
The ending is the most important part of this suspenseful supernatural movie. The ending of “Old” is to bring these illegal people to justice.
Although it is reasonable, there are no surprises. The final development of this story has fallen into mediocrity after all.
There is no reversal of the audience’s expectations, and there is no room for people to think deeply.
In fact, it was a waste of this setting that could be thought about and digged deeply.
On the whole, “Old” is still innovative, and the idea of the story is very good.
The plot of “Old” is novel and will arouse a lot of discussion, and it also brings people’s reflection on life, but the presentation process is still slightly far-fetched, and the whole is still visible.
