“The Brave One”: Jodie Foster’s performance masterpiece

It is hard to imagine that if it were Hollywood today, would it be applauded for “The Brave One”( a film with such “dangerous” values).

But in 2007, apart from giving Jodie Foster a Golden Globe nomination, the film disappeared during the awards season.

Even in New York, which is known as the city that never sleeps, the neon lights all over the city cannot illuminate every corner of the night.

Erika, the radio host played by Jodie, lives in New York. One night, she and her fiance were besieged by a gang of thugs. She was severely wounded and her fiance was brutally killed.

A few weeks later, Erika woke up from a coma, and apart from collapse, it was even more painful that he could not find the criminal.

In order to take revenge, Erica Bain bought a gun, and in accidents, he led a life of constantly killing male villains to “eliminate violence for the people”.

Just like Diane.Kruger in “Aus dem Nichts” or Joaquin Phoenix in “Joker”.

Jodie’s starring in the film also caused misfortune, embarking on a path of revenge under the oppression of society.

At the same time, this movie and this character can also be regarded as an attempt to respond to “Taxi Driver” in the year.

What Jodie wants to portray is a woman who almost lost her life and woke up with nothing.

Erica Bain can only rely on guns to protect herself and use it to kill people again and again. From not knowing how to use guns at all, to becoming a “female gunman” skillfully.

Throughout the process, psychological and physical fears and anxiety, as well as the multiple ethical dilemmas that individuals are trapped in society, continue to erode the heart of Erica Bain.

The film unfolds in the real street context of New York, and Jodie step by step makes Erika “out of control” under a calm shell, eventually reaching the edge of good and evil.

Objectively speaking, the film itself has flaws that cannot be ignored.

Jodie relied on his own performance to make up for the completion of the film, making every step of Erika’s role convincing.
