The Thai and South Korean co-production horror film “The Medium”(랑종), released in 2021, has recently earned everyone’s appetite.
I believe that many of my friends have already watched this horror movie this year, which is known as the best-watched movie this year. I don’t know how you feel about it.
Today, I will give you some analysis of “The Medium” to help you understand the movie better.
1.Plot introduction
The story originated from the funeral of Noi’s husband Willow. Nim, who is a psychic, is Noi’s biological sister.
At the funeral, Nim discovered that Noi’s daughter Ming behaved strangely.
Ming’s series of weird phenomena made Nim realize that she was Shaman’s chosen psychic.
But as Ming’s situation worsened, Nim realized that things were not that simple.
It turns out that Ming and his brother Mike have a special relationship, and Nim and Noi also have unknown secrets.
Later, Noi took his daughter Ming to perform a surrendering ceremony, and Ming’s situation took a turn for the worse.
Nim realized that Ming was possessed by evil spirits, so an exorcism activity began…

2. Plot analysis
Nim is not actually Shaman’s choice of psychic. The right candidate is her sister Noi.
Because Noi didn’t want to be a psychic, Shaman retreated and found Nim.
So Nim didn’t get all of Shaman’s supernatural power, but it was enough to cope with the general situation.
When Nim saw that Shaman had been beheaded, he questioned his beliefs and was eventually hidden by God.
Noi is a representative of not firm belief. In order to be an improper psychic, he secretly tricked Shaman to find Nim and began to believe in Christianity.
After the psychic phenomenon appeared in his daughter Ming, Noi asked Nim who believed in Shaman to help, and even made his own claim to perform a surrendering ceremony for Ming, which caused Ming’s situation to deteriorate.
Even if Noi was possessed by Shaman in the end, he did not have enough thought power to resist the evil spirits, harming himself and his family.
Ming is a pure atheist, born with psychic ability, can see things that ordinary people can’t see, and is the most suitable psychic candidate for Shaman.
So the initial reaction should be related to Shaman, because Noi and Nim have had these reactions before.
Shaman even told Ming through a dream that he would be chopped off, but Ming didn’t care, causing his body to be occupied by evil spirits.
And the evil spirit at the beginning should be related to the child.
Due to Nim’s misjudgment and Noi’s blockade, Ming was caught by more evil spirits.
When they realized that the problem was serious, it was too late.
As for the curse of the Willow family, it originated from a massacre of ancestors.
Someone cursed Willow’s family before dying, causing all men in this family to die.
There was a turning point for all of this. As long as Noi accepted Shaman, there was a chance to eliminate the curse, but Noi rejected Shaman.
In addition, Willow cheated Baobao to burn down the factory, which increased the number of evil spirits. These evil spirits, plus the cursed evil spirits, all gathered on Ming.
In the end, Ming’s uncle, Nim’s eldest brother, hurt Ming when she was a child, and Noi knew about it, but chose to remain silent.
And Ming’s brother, he should have done something to Ming, he felt guilty and chose to commit suicide.
Ming’s uncle and mother knew about this, so they claimed to have died in an accident.
3. Overall evaluation
I haven’t mentioned the shooting method of this film before, “The Medium” is presented to everyone in the form of a documentary.
This method gives people a sense of reality and at the same time weakens the sense of horror to a certain extent, resulting in the audience having a two-layered experience in the process of watching the movie.
So “The Medium” is actually not scary, and most viewers can watch it with confidence.
Another point is that “The Medium” is actually not much different from the exorcism movies in Europe and the United States, except that it has added the horror elements of Thailand.
But the exorcism of “The Medium” was a failure, and the reason for the failure was, in the final analysis, their inconsistency in their beliefs.
It is said that this is a horror movie rather than a movie that explores faith in the cloak of horror.
Generally speaking, “The Medium” is not scary, but it is very scary.
No horror is a movie effect. There are no horror shots for nearly half of the entire movie, and even post-exorcism is not particularly horrible.
It is said that horror is embodied in the authenticity presented by “The Medium”.
This is a major feature of pseudo-documentary films, and related films include the American science fiction film “Cloverfield” and so on.
