This article contains spoilers, please read the article after watching the movie.
The story is actually almost all adapted from Thor’s comics, including Jane Foster suffering from cancer, transforming into Mighty Thor, and eventually dying in battle.
Gorr the God Butcher’s background is also similar to the cartoon, but this film has changed his ultimate purpose.
But even so, there is still a very strong Taika Waititi personal style, from the god of buns to screaming goats to the ubiquitous Gun and Rose songs, everywhere full of the embodiment of his personal preferences.
Three important keywords are needed
These words deserve further interpretation
Eternity
It is one of the most important explosive points of the film, and has always been a key element that could not be mentioned before the release.
It is a very familiar character to fans of the comic, always looking forward to his debut.
Eternity appears in the Marvel comics one of the most powerful gods, is the anthropomorphism of time and the universe, with great power, basically represents the beings in the universe.
He exists in the center of the universe and is used as a “wishing pool” in the film to grant a wish to those who come to him.
Gorr the God Butcher at the end of the film intended to wish to kill all the gods in existence, but finally changed his mind and was ultimately willing to bring his daughter back to life.
In the shrine to Eternity, which is where Storm Axe tries to open the passage at the end is a shrine with many sculptures of the great gods. In addition to Eternity, also includes Eternity’s sister Infinity, Living Tribunal, God of Death, The Watcher and so on.
Eternity and Infinity together represent the universe, but their power remains lower than that of the Living Tribunal, which is responsible for all life within and beyond the multiverse, and oversees and maintains the balance of the entire multiverse.
The introduction of these gods should be for the future of Marvel after more multiverse war preparation, such as Secret Wars.
Valhalla
It’s basically heaven, and Asgard enters Valhalla for those who died heroically in the war.
When it dies, it is transformed into the form of gold dust.
But must be killed in the war, like the film Thor’s old best friend female warrior Sif did not die in the war, only lost an armpit, she mentioned that she very much hope to go to Valhalla, but if later die again will not be able to go.
From the film’s second egg can be seen, Dr. Jane Foster because in this film became Mighty Thor and was in the war to protect Asgard sacrifice, so when he died also turned into gold dust and appeared in Valhalla.
She was greeted by Heimdall, who died in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
And before Thor’s father Odin is also turned into gold dust to go here. I believe that in Thor 3, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in the battle dead Asgard people should be here. I do not know if it includes Loki.
Loki in the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ also died in battle, even though he had done bad things, but because he was honorable sacrifice for the people and brother, so I believe he is also eligible to go to Valhalla.
PS: seen in the ‘Loki’ episode is the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in the travel back to the past when he accidentally escaped, in the normal timeline of Loki has been killed in battle
Valhalla in the egg is also very beautiful, is basically the ideal paradise look, if you can go here after death is really enviable.
Valkyria says in this film that she feels tired of living on earth and her future goal is to die in battle and come to Valhalla to enjoy the blessings.
This idea that dying is actually entering another world of better souls was also mentioned in ‘Black Panther’, as well as in the recent episode ‘Moon Knight’.
The Marvel Universe exists with many different soul worlds, and as long as they are good people, they end up in a good place.
Love
The film’s title, “Love and Thunder,” ultimately proves to be not only an exploration of the theme of love, but ultimately Thor adopts a little girl, the daughter that “Eternity” helped Gale get back, and gives the girl the name “Love. Love”.
The girl is played by Thor actor Chris Hemsworth’s daughter India Rose Hemsworth herself, so the two do look a bit alike. (Chris’s son actually made a cameo appearance in the film, starring as a child Thor running in the woods.)
And because she was brought back from the dead with the power of “Eternity”, it seems that she also carries the divine power of the “Eternal” God, and I am looking forward to her future performance.
And a girl named “Love” has the power of God, is also a metaphor: the power of love is powerful.
The theme of love is explored from many angles in the film.
Thor and Jane’s story shows the meaning of love, two people originally because of the fear of not lasting and separated, and ultimately still can not end up together, but even if the time together is short, still let them feel very worthy of love and defying all odds.
The villain Gale, because of the loss of his daughter, became unhappy and bent on revenge, but in the end he was persuaded by Thor to give up revenge and choose love instead.
Valkyria and Thor in the film both talk about the loss of love once did not want to love again, closed themselves, but as Star-Lord said, love, although complex, will make people suffer, but still worth trying, otherwise you will feel that life is empty and meaningless.
And Thor’s axe represents the jealousy that must exist in love, watching his master see his old love again, and began to make a scene and increase his presence.
Thor also adopted the villain’s daughter out of great love, overcoming the fear in his heart for the first time, and began to try fatherhood.
At the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ he had lost his way and did not know what to do next, but after reuniting with Jane and getting an adopted daughter, his life now has a new purpose.
All this proves that love brings people a lot of joy and pain, but remains the basic meaning of human existence. It can also be said that it is love that allows Thor to continue to grow and move forward.
This film also refers to Nolan’s “Interstellar”, in which Anne Hathaway’s classic line: “Love is the one thing we’re capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space.”
Two eggs
The first egg is the introduction of another well-known Marvel superhero character Hercules Hercules debut.
Heracles is the son of Zeus, the film Zeus believes that because humans have superheroes, are no longer worship the gods, so that the gods have become a joke.
So, Zeus wanted to send his son Heracles to give Thor some color.
But Heracles is not a villain, it is expected that if he debuts in the next episode of Thor is also the first and Thor over, and then will become friends. Just his personality is brash, not as much as Thor has had in-depth contact with humans.
Eventually, though, he should become a friend of humanity, or even join The Avengers.
Heracles stars Brett Goldstein, one of the main actors in the current hit comedy ‘Ted Lasso’ .
The second egg is the introduction of Valhalla, which proves that most of the “dead” heroes in the story of Thor are living a divine life here.
Other interesting details
Story many funny lines and scenes in the arrangement of small details than the story itself is more worth repeatedly pondering.
The palace part of Zeus in this film is very eye-catching, in addition to the beautiful flesh of Thor and the golden palace, there are also a lot of interesting gods, and is the god of various cultural backgrounds.
This includes the traditional Chinese dragon, which is also featured in ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’.
You will also see various deities from ancient Egypt, other East Asian cultures, and a lovely God of Dumplings: Bao.
And Thor can have naked scenes is indeed the tower guide and Chris Hay has always wanted, but also considered muscle not in vain, for the benefit of the public.
Valkyria has a T-shirt that says ‘The Phantom of The Opera’ in the film, which feels like an allusion to the villain Gale.
For Gale, like the hero of ‘The Phantom of The Opera’, became a withdrawn, shadow-living, jealous and unhappy man because he was hurt, but in the end, the love in his heart overcame the hate.
LGBT content is indeed better added to the story of the sky gods and aliens, and is what Tower Guide itself would like to add.
Anyway, the story of rocks and rocks giving birth to rocks makes children just laugh when they hear it.
So in addition to Valkyria nostalgia for his dead ex-girlfriend, stone man Korg also told his life, the original species are single-sex mating, he had two fathers, and eventually he also found another stone uncle as a companion.
And under the voice of the tower guide, Korg is still the best laugh in this film, ready to take the words to amuse the poor, but also in this film to play the role of storytelling, to tell a lot of children about the legend of Thor.
We also learn that he is in fact he will not die, he can continue to grow as long as he keeps his face, and he can continue to tell jokes as long as he still has his mouth.
The main purpose of LGBT content is to infiltrate within the Marvel Universe, making such characters universal and the audience slowly getting used to their presence.
It becomes more broadly representative in understanding love.
Love can be the kind between Jane and Saul, but also Valkyria, stoners such.
Even though most of the content came from the comic, the idea of adding heart-rending screams to the goat definitely came from Ta Gui, and he was inspired by a video of a screaming goat that was widely circulated online.
The humble little theater of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ also returns, giving Matt Damon the opportunity to make another cameo appearance.
Fingertip touch between Thor and Star-Lord may be inspired by the ET movie, but also very much in the style of the Tower Guide.
Even if Loki only in the memory of the appearance of the tower guide has not completely forgotten him, Thor’s tattoo still to show Thor’s nostalgia for Loki.
Not only was Loki’s helmet tattooed, but it also read, “May you rest in peace in mischief.” And also clip a broken heart.
Most of the songs throughout the film come from Gun and Roses, and even one of the young African-American boys (Heimdall’s son) gave himself the nickname “Axl” also from one of the members of the rock band, Axl Rose.
In short, from beginning to end, many details are in fact the embodiment of the personal preferences of the tower guide, and therefore the story, although it is a comic book, still very different from the first two Thor, is the continuation of the third style.
Perhaps ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is more of a set-up for the two subsequent reunion movies so the audience will be whetted by the appetite at the time, while this film has not yet seen much connection with the other movies, but if you like the style of the tower director should not be disappointed.
