Amber Heard formally files court papers to appeal

Nearly two months ago, Johnny Depp sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation and it was announced that Depp won the case.

And the latest, Heard formally filed papers with the court to file an appeal.

Recently, Heard’s attorney filed a notice of intent to appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for Fairfax County, Virginia.

A spokeswoman for her said, “We believe the court made mistakes that led to the failure to render a just verdict in this case consistent with the First Amendment. While we know that today’s act of filing will light a fire under social media, there are steps we must take to ensure justice.”

She has allegedly not yet paid the $8.3 million required for an appeal under local Va. law.

The appeals process will have to move forward and eventually address this cost issue, but to begin the process of filing an appeal as we do today, it will only cost $500.

A spokesperson for the Depp side responded, saying that the jury made a clear, unanimous judgment after hearing the evidence and that “we maintain our confidence in the case and believe the verdict will stand.”
