Analysts expect that ‘Black Adam’ should be the best debut of Dwayne Johnson’s career, if we don’t count the Fast and Furious series.
Data from booking systems show that this new DC film is expected to open with $70-75 million, or even more. Analysts believe the film’s gold-mining ability is similar to Sony’s debut ‘Venom’, which made $80 million in its first week at the box office in ’18.
Some dispute this, arguing that Dwayne Johnson’s appeal far exceeds that of Tom Hardy and that ‘Black Adam’ is underrated. Analysts are conservative because they consider that theaters are still recovering and are not well compared to the pre-epidemic heyday.
In addition to his personal charm, another major selling point of ‘Black Adam’ is Dwayne Johnson’s first superhero role. Playing Black Adam is his long-time wish, which the director is well aware of.
Spanish director Jaume Collet-Serra had previously directed Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Jungle Cruise’ and the two worked closely together.
Serra said in an interview: “Johnson’s acting skills in this film to another level, he approached the film extra serious, want to breakthrough, I believe that fans will recognize this.”
Warner has now launched a multi-destination campaign, with the film opening first in Europe (Oct. 19), followed by South America and Northern America (Oct. 20 and 21).
