Fans of The Amazing Spider-Man won’t deny that Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker is a heartthrob, but Garfield recently revealed that not everyone is impressed with his looks.
Specifically, Garfield said he was rejected for his appearance in an early audition for Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia.
Andrew Garfield told Variety that when his career was just starting, he was eager to get involved in The Chronicles of Narnia series.
“I remember being so desperate,” Garfield said. “I auditioned for Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia, and I thought, ‘That could be it, it could be this.’ And it was Ben Barnes, the handsome, talented actor who ended up getting The role. I guess it’s up to me and him, and I remember being obsessed with it at the time.”
Garfield said that after falling out of the role, he pestered his agent to find out why. This led the overwhelmed agent to finally tell him, “Because they don’t think you’re handsome enough, Andrew.”
But Andrew Garfield doesn’t seem to have any ill will towards Ben Barnes, who stole his role.
As Garfield puts it, “Ben Barnes was a very handsome, talented guy. So looking back, I’m not dissatisfied with the decision, and I think he played it really well.”
While failing to land a role in 2008’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Andrew Garfield gained widespread attention in 2010’s The Social Network.
He then made a major career breakthrough as Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man.
Coincidentally, Ben Barnes also entered the Marvel Universe by starring in Netflix’s The Punisher series. I don’t know if the two will meet in the movie.
As for Andrew Garfield, he just won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his performance in “Tick, Tick… Boom”.
No one might think he’s not handsome enough now.
