Recently Brendan Fraser recently promoted ‘The Whale’ when he once again mentioned the audition for Superman, he revealed that he was behind Paul Walker to go to the audition and was disappointed that he did not end up playing Superman.
“It seems like in 2002-2003, the number one male star in Hollywood was reading the script for ‘Superman: Flyby’ and about six or seven people auditioned for it, and Paul Walker was ahead of me. We were waiting to be ‘picked’ like in ‘The Usual Suspects’.”
In fact, Henry Cavill, who was 20 years old that year, also auditioned and was then brushed off.

Brendan Fraser realized that getting the role of Superman would be a “life-changing opportunity,” but he also worried that Superman would become a mark he couldn’t erase and might hinder the diversity of his acting career.
Brendan apparently overthought, he did not get the role, written by Jeffrey Jacob Abrams, Brett Ratner directed ‘Superman: Flyby’ chose Matt Bomer, only the producers prefer Josh Hartnett, but the project did not end up playing anyone.
‘Superman Returns’ didn’t work either
‘Superman: Flyby’ went round and round into ‘Superman Returns’, directed by Bryan Singer and starring Brandon Routh, in 2006. This heavily invested film did not do as well as expected at the box office and had no follow-up.
Bryan Singer and Brandon Routh are both gone, ‘Man of Steel’ is almost 10 years old, and Henry Cavill got and then lost Superman.

I wonder what will happen to ‘Superman: Legacy’?
The latest development in the big screen adaptation of ‘He Who Came from Krypton’ is: James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ will be released in July 2025.
