British actor Brian Cox, who will turn 76 this year, is once again popular with the American drama “Succession”.
He recently published his memoir “Putting the Rabbit in the Hat”. When talking about his Hollywood career, he admitted that he regretted turning down the invitation to “Game of Thrones”, but he did not regret turning down “Pirates of the Caribbean”.
Earlier, he also thought on the talk show that Johnny Depp was an overrated actor.
In the book, he recalls that when the “Game of Thrones” crew asked him to play Robert Baratheon, but he didn’t want to play it, the crew finally found Mark Addy Johnson.
Brian Cox said: “I’m often asked if I’ve been invited to play ‘Game of Thrones’ – because of all the other bastards – and the answer is, yes. I was supposed to be a king named Robert Baratheon, in the first He was killed by a boar mid-season. I didn’t know much about ‘Game of Thrones’ at the time, didn’t know if he was a big character, and didn’t search.”
He justified his regrets by saying that because of “Game of Thrones”‘s undeniable popularity, every member of the crew made a fortune.
However, he doesn’t seem to care too much since his character is killed off at the very beginning of the episode.
He also wrote in the book that almost every prominent British actor played the Harry Potter series, he did not.
“I might have played Alastor Moody as Brendan Gleeson, but Brendan was more fashionable than me at the time. That’s the way the business is, so he got the role. Plus, he’s way better than me.”
Another role Brian Cox turned down was the Governor in Pirates of the Caribbean, played by The Two Popes star Jonathan Pryce (he also played Game of Thrones)
He said: “Pirates of the Caribbean was directed by Gore Verbinski, I did The Ring with him, he was a lovely guy, and I may have tarnished his reputation because I turned down an offer to be the Governor. But here Of all the characters in the movie, this is the most thankless.”
The reason for rejecting “Pirates of the Caribbean”, he also analyzed, this film is Johnny Depp’s personal show as Captain Jack.
He thinks Johnny Depp is overrated, “He’s overrated, overrated.”
Brian Cox took Edward Scissorhands as an example, “Admit it, if your hands are like this, and you have pale scars on your face, as an actor you don’t have to do anything [to be expressive]. In fact, he doesn’t either. How well you acted, and didn’t play that role as well.”
