“District 10” does not follow Hollywood routines, Neill Blomkamp: I want to return to the feeling of “District 9”

The sequel “District 10” of “District 9” is already in preparation. Director Neill Blomkamp not only confirmed this in an interview some time ago.

He said that he didn’t want to be like the usual Hollywood blockbusters, once the sequel comes, the budget upgrade will increase in scale.

He wants to bring “District 10” back to the “District 9” style.

However, he feels that “District 10” can still be like “District 9”, with a simple story and simple structure.

Only in this way can he appear more flexible, more creative, and more personal. He likes this approach very much.

Neill Blomkamp may have said this because he was aware of the mistakes he made in some major productions before.

After the blockbuster “District 9”, he filmed “Elysium” and “Chappie” starring high investment and big stars.

But the two are not good enough in word-of-mouth and box office. The former costs more than 100 million, and the box office is about 280 million. The latter costs 50 million, and the global box office is about 100 million US dollars.

Although the cost of these two films is not much compared with the 233 million first-level Hollywood productions.

But compared with Neill Blomkamp’s debut “District 9” cost of 30 million, more than 200 million box office, the income is indeed much lower.

Neill Blomkamp seems to be able to use lower costs to express his ideas, and the increase in cost did not increase the creativity.

Obviously, the big Hollywood studios also lost confidence in him.

“Alien 5” and “RoboCop” restart the sequel two heavyweight major IP projects, which were created by Neill Blomkamp at the beginning.
