Today (July 21), according to media sources, an HBO executive and George R. R. Martin himself have each expressed their views on the strongly negative reviews of ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8.
The final season of this critically acclaimed fantasy series was long awaited by fans and naturally became one of the highest rated seasons. However, after the show aired, many viewers commented that “the storyline was rushed and the ending was unsatisfying”.
In an interview with the magazine ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, Martin said he lost confidence in the Internet reviews of season 8 because they contained too many negative comments.
“***, toxic internet, they say season eight left such a bad impression that viewers who haven’t seen it have said ‘oh I’ll never watch it again’.”
Martin shot back verbally in the interview, “I don’t trust them anymore.”
And HBO content director Casey Bloys also shared his opinion: HBO expected to have some bad reviews, after all, the content can not please everyone, but the main bad reviews are from social media.
“It was a backlash from social media. I think Twitter is very cutthroat and it’s not real life, like you want all fans to be happy, that’s not possible.”
Although the eighth season was bombarded with bad reviews, ‘Game of Thrones’ is still very popular as a complete series. The next series of the spin-off ‘House of the Dragon’ will premiere on August 21.
HBO executive Francesca Orsi said this: “We don’t expect ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ to have comparable ratings, but if the results are good, HBO will be very quick to give the green light to Season 2. “
In addition to ‘House of the Dragon’, HBO is also developing a Jon Snow spin-off with Kit Harington returning, but it remains to be seen if it actually goes into production.
