How was the live-action footage of Sandman and The Lizard filmed? Official response for the first time

In the Marvel movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, with the joint efforts of “Three Generations of Spider-Man” and others, all the villains are restored to their original appearance.

These villains include: Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, The Lizard.

Two of them are flashed by:

Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church, is from the 2007 Sony film “Spider-Man 3”.

The Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans, is from the 2012 Sony film “The Amazing Spider-Man”.

When “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was officially released, fans raised questions.

Everyone suspects that these two shots are not live-action shooting, and may be directly using the deleted shots from the previous movie.

However, according to the cast and crew information sheet, Sandman and The Lizard did not change actors.

At the time, officials did not shy away from the issue.

A simple response: The actors of Sandman and The Lizard did not participate in the filming, but participated in the dubbing work.

However, there was no official mention at the time of how the live-action footage of Sandman and The Lizard was filmed.

Recently, YouTube’s popular VFX channel the Corridor Crew discussed the CGI details of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” with VFX Supervisor Kelly Port.

Kelly Port further explained the CGI details for Sandman and The Lizard:

Reference translation:

“We didn’t have access to Rhys Ifans or Thomas Haden Church, so we ended up using footage from the previous films and processing it. So, Rhys Ifans (The Lizard), while he was recovering, we actually used A shot was shot on film, scanned in high resolution, tracked, body tracked, etc. So it ended up being a lot of CG, especially when Thomas Haden Church (Sandman) was transforming. We had to manipulate It, getting him into the scene with the lights, and stuff like that.”

In other words, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” doesn’t simply use the previous cut-out shots as everyone has previously rumored.

Instead, the creative team scanned high-resolution footage from previous films and then used CGI technology to recreate live-action footage of Sandman and Dr. Lizard.

Although the explanation is more reasonable, in the actual feature film performance, the live-action shots of these two characters are actually not so coordinated.
