James Cameron refused Fox executives to cut ‘Avatar’ scene

Director James Cameron recently revealed in an interview with ‘The New York Times’ that when making ‘Avatar’, the executives of the film company Fox had wanted the film to make some cuts.

Cameron rejected them with one bottom line: “I made ‘Titanic’ and now we are meeting in this building, this $500 million building of your company, which was built with the money earned from ‘Titanic’, so (‘Avatar’) do it on my terms.

“At the time Fox executives wanted to make the full length of the film shorter, and felt that Banshee on the flying scene too much, Cameron was not happy to change, he said he did research and data collection, found that the audience most like the flying scene.

In this regard, he “clearly drew the line” at Fox with the statement, “‘Titanic’ made you a lot of money.

Avatar’ has since grossed more than $2 billion worldwide (and now has a re-release on the horizon).

Cameron revealed, “Afterwards, they [the Fox people] came to thank me. I felt it was my job to protect the money they had invested, which was often against their own judgment. But as long as I protect their investment, anything can be forgiven.”
