James Cameron: The ‘Avatar: The Tulkun Rider’ script directly shocked the production company

James Cameron has been frequently interviewed by the media to promote ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’. In an exclusive interview with the movie website Collider, he revealed that after he submitted the script of ‘Avatar: The Tulkun Rider’ to the film company, the executives did not fill in the notes and feedback, and wrote directly “Holy Fxxk”, the other party seems to be shocked to confusion.

Avatar: The Way of Water’ is 13 years away from the first episode, making fans eagerly await, according to the schedule announced earlier: ‘Avatar: The Seed Bearer’ ‘Avatar: The Tulkun Rider’ and ‘Avatar: The Quest for Eywa’ debut in 2024, 2026 and 2028 Christmas season respectively.

Cameron explained in an interview with Collider that he wrote the story of all the sequels in one go, learning from Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, “He was seen as a crazy gamble to make three back-to-back, and to pay homage, we took a chance on three movies in one go. But Peter had the original as a reference and was able to show the actors the character arc that everyone needs to get to know. I wanted to produce it with the original in hand as well, and the only way to make it feel that way was to write all the scripts for the sequels in one sitting and have the actors read through them to see where their characters would go and understand what the implications were.”

Cameron says it wasn’t easy to shoot two big productions at the same time: “We didn’t shoot them in order, but in a very piecemeal fashion. One day part of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, the next day part of ‘Avatar: The Seed Bearer’ and then part of ‘Avatar: The Tulkun Rider’.”

Cameron believes that the production process is a bit like making a six-hour-long limited series. If the market feedback of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is good enough, people will have a chance to see ‘Avatar: The Seed Bearer’ and ‘Avatar: The Tulkun Rider’, and it will definitely be successful.

In the run-up to the second film, Cameron has been stressing how great the sequel is, citing ‘Avatar: The Tulkun Rider’ in particular: “When I submitted the script for ‘Avatar: The Way of the Water,’ the studio gave me three pages of feedback. When I submitted the script for ‘Avatar: The Seed Bearer’, they gave me one page of notes, which means I’ve improved a bit. After Avatar: The Tulkun Rider was submitted, the studio creative executive sent me an email saying, ‘Holy Fxxk.’ I replied, ‘So, where are the notes?’ She said, ‘This line is.’ Because it shocked them into confusion in a good way, right?”
