After several delays, multiple trailers, and some confusing quotes from the film’s cast and crew, “Morbius” is finally in theaters.
The film, which follows Jared Leto’s character Morbius, a scientist who infects himself with a vampire form in order to cure his blood disease, is not well received.
The blood-sucking epic is Sony’s latest foray into its own Spider-Man universe.
So far, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has not appeared in any of the Sony Spider-Man universes, save for a brief scene in the end credits of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, in Morbius Spider-Man is hinted at in all the trailers.
Whether it’s the spider web launcher logo in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”, or Michael Keaton’s vulture in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, or Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man on the wall, there’s a lot to like about all three Spider- Man’s innuendo has appeared in Morbius’ advertising.
However, the suggestion of Spider-Man appearing in Morbius has not been confirmed so far.
So now that the movie is out, is everything already answered?
It doesn’t seem that simple.
In an interview with the press, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa explained that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man poster was seen in the movie’s trailer, even though it didn’t actually appear in the final cut.
The scene Daniel Espinosa said only appeared in the trailer.
So for me, as a director, I can only make movies.
As a fan, I have the following opinions and thoughts on this.
But since I didn’t put that in the movie, because Spider-Man wasn’t in the story structure of the movie, it wasn’t in the trailer either.
So if I want to say anything about this, it’s from a fan’s point of view.
But because I’m the director, I’m going to be said to know about it.
Actually I don’t know, you know? If I knew about it, I could tell you.
But it’s not up to me to decide. It wasn’t my idea, you know?
I would like to be honest and responsible, but I can’t because it’s not up to me to decide.
In a campaign full of obstacles, even after launch day, the pattern seems to be only going to continue.
For fans at large, a quote like this from director Morbius is even more confusing.
Generally speaking, the director should have the right to decide the trailer of the movie.
Some directors even cut trailers for their own films.
So the director’s explanation does give the impression that Sony is at least planning something.
Director Daniel Espinosa has noted that “audiences will soon find out” what the studio has in store for Spider-Man in Venom and Morbius.
So maybe the team thought these plans would get the results they wanted when the Moebius movie came out, but that didn’t ultimately lead to the team removing Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man poster from the movie.
But these words from the director are also more confusing, let’s just assume he’s telling the truth, which makes one more curious about what Sony Pictures is planning.
