Peter Jackson recently told THR that he had considered using hypnosis to forget the experience of directing ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series, forgetting everything about the film, because then he could watch it with the same surprise as the fans.
“I felt unfortunate when I made ‘The Lord of the Rings’ because I couldn’t watch it as if it was a series of films that appeared out of nowhere. By the time it was released, I had been immersed in it for five or six years, and it was a great loss that I couldn’t watch these films like other viewers. I actually seriously considered going to a hypnotist and undergoing hypnosis to forget about ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and the six or seven years of work I had put into it so that I could sit back and enjoy watching it. It’s an idea I didn’t execute completely, but I talked to Derren Brown (a psychologist) about it and he thought he could do it.”
