Recently, there have been rumors that ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ has strong political overtones, but producer Patrick McKay denied such claims in an interview. He said the show hopes to be a “classic” like Tolkien’s original.

“What Tolkien created was not an allegory, not a commentary on his time or the history of another era, nor was he trying to convey a message related to contemporary politics. what Tolkien wanted to create was a mythology, something that could cross generations.” The producer explains.
McKay went on to explain that every choice the creative team made for the episode was “true to Tolkien’s wishes” because they didn’t want to adapt the work in a way that might feel dated.
