“Return to Hogwarts”:Reunited after 20 years to reminisce the story of Harry Potter

On June 26, 1997, a novel titled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” was quietly published in the UK.

No one realized then that a new era of magic was slowly beginning.

On November 16, 2001, when the world fell into “Harry Potter mania”, the film version of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” was released.

The beautiful and realistic magic world that seems to be at your fingertips distributes tickets to audiences all over the world.

“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” a $125 million, $974 million box-office miracle, rose to $1 billion after its rerun.

Earliest memory of Harry Potter

Have you ever leaned against the windowsill and imagined that the owl ripped apart a corner of the night and brought yourself a Hogwarts admission notice?

How many times have you fantasized about your house, your patron saint, and the material and core of your wand.

When “Hedwig’s Theme” sounded, were you, like Mr. Shi, your eyes warmed and your heart racing for that unbelievably happy memory.

In a flash, 20 years have passed since the first time I saw Hogwarts Castle on the big screen.

The first thing in the new year, it is better to follow the main creative team – “return to Hogwarts”.

1.Harry Potter on set

Revisiting the old place always brings back many memories.

Having assembled most of the main creators of the first episode, HBO’s anniversary reunion show can be said to be full of sincerity and feelings.

Along with the narration of the actors and directors, we also get a glimpse of the unknown and interesting things behind the magical world.

For example, for a fantasy blockbuster at the level of “Harry Potter”, post-production special effects are the top priority.

But many people may not know that the candles suspended on the ceiling of the Hogwarts hall are actually real candles hung by Wia, and they will even break the rope and fall to the ground.

Dumbledore’s pet Fox wasn’t made purely CGI either.

The props team made the phoenix so realistic that Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore) always thought it was a trained bird.

Neither Chris nor Daniel told him the truth until filming was complete.

Accidents are always unavoidable during filming.

The first father-son confrontation between Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) and Tom Felton takes place in the Borgin-Bock store, where Lucius uses a snake-headed cane to shove Draco away.

The sharp cane really hurt Tom during filming, but he just said “it’s okay, it’s good for the scene” with tears in his eyes.

Although this scene was cut when it was released, we can still appreciate the actors’ efforts in the extended version.

Many will remember Hermione’s stunning appearance at the Christmas ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In order to perform this highlight, Emma Watson had to rehearse how to gracefully walk down the steps in a dress under different instructions over and over again.

Finally, she fell down the stairs.

Not only do actors get hurt, but directors sometimes avoid risks.

Also in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” the Weasley twins have to fight with each other as they age, but the close Phelps brothers can’t let go.

To this end, 60-year-old director Mike Newell decided to give them a demonstration. As a result, on his own impulse, he broke several ribs during this teaching.

Many of the villains we once feared, in the 20-year retrospective, showed their witty sides that were different from their characters.

Jason revealed that at the end of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, the scene where Lucius kicked Dobby down the steps was actually his temporary design, and the director thought he was slipping.

This temporary addition proved to be a success. While the audience felt more pity for Dobby, they also deepened their disgust with Lucius.

As Tom Felton described it: He instantly became the most unfriendly, scariest person I’ve ever met.

Could such an arrogant Lucius Malfoy have someone to fear?

Of course, the answer is Lord Voldemort.

Ralph Fiennes hadn’t actually seen Harry Potter before starring in Lord Voldemort.

But because his niece told him to “must say yes,” we have such a perfect, terrifying villain.

It’s probably because the acting was so good that Jason Isaacs said he was afraid of Ralph for some reason when filming.

Even on set, every actor who confronted Ralph could see his straight nose.

If you want to choose the happiest villain in the entire series, it must be Helena Bonham Carter.

The madness of Bellatrix Lestrange makes Helena the most free actor in the group.

She can play Bellatrix’s madness in different ways of giggling and jumping up and down, which makes Jason very jealous.

Because “I’m trying to figure out a way to do that scene well, and she’s enjoying her time.”

At the same time, Helena is also one of the few actors who has actually felt “magic”.

During filming, most of the actors were just holding wands to make complex movements, but they couldn’t get real feedback.

And in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where Bellatrix blows up Hagrid, the crew actually creates an explosion after Helena swings her wand.

Looking back on it after many years, this memory is still fresh, and it also makes Tom, who is listening on the opposite side, very envious.

2.Big family

Just as no employee, except the boss, truly treats the company as a writer. There are very few actors in the world who treat the set as home and the crew members as family.

But if you’re working on a decade-long project like Harry Potter, then everything should be a different story.

Back when filming Harry Potter and the Wizard, director Chris Columbus created a family friendly atmosphere for everyone.

For example, remember the tension between Harry and Draco Malfoy during the first flying lesson?

On the contrary, it is the joy between the young actors.

Although a group of excited kids would add obstacles to filming, Chris was happy to keep them as innocent and happy as possible, allowing them to play on set.

The crash game thus became an unforgettable memory for all.

Emma once had a hamster on set. After his death, the set designer ordered a velvet-lined wooden coffin with his name “Millie” engraved on it.

Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid) has also said that he spends more time with Emma than his own children.

Everyone sees each other as their own family.

It is probably because of such a warm and harmonious team that the Harry Potter series of movies we have seen have such a beautiful and touching power.

In addition, I have to mention that in the 20th anniversary special, I also smelled a sweet taste different from family affection.

Emma Watson was very happy to admit to us that she had a crush on Tom Felton during the filming.

She searches the bulletin sheet every day for Tom Felton’s number, and if there is, “it’s going to be an even more exciting day”.

And Tom also said that he has a protective desire for Emma, and has a “soft spot” for her to this day.

Although Emma stressed that they were in love with each other but never had a romantic relationship.

But……

3.Accompanying

In a gigantic family of hundreds of people, the closest and most concerning to us are always the three of them – Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson.

From being cast in the Iron Triangle to the end of filming on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. For 10 years, they have been together day and night and have been by each other’s side all the time.

But in fact, they also had moments of confusion.

Before “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, Emma was hesitant to quit because she always felt lonely because of her gender.

And Daniel and Rupert were not old enough to discover their peers’ psychological problems.

It wasn’t until the 20th Anniversary special that Rupert actually discussed it with Emma.

He admits that they both felt the negative effects of fame at the time and thought about what the future would hold if it all ended there.

But fortunately, the fans and their love for each other made the three insist on completing all the filming.

When the weather is cold, they stand together to keep warm. I can’t remember how many times they fell asleep on each other’s shoulders because they were too tired from filming.

They understand each other without the need for verbal communication and have always been strong for each other, like real siblings.

Emma mentions that her favorite scene from the entire series is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, where Hermione and Harry dance in a tent.

Daniel was at first shocked by the plot arrangement, but soon they were all caught up in the short break.

As for the kiss scene between Emma and Rupert, it was an unexpected disaster.

In the final movie, Ron and Hermione need to kiss in the Chamber of Secrets, and the main scene is tough for Emma and Rupert, who are always freezing and laughing.

Rupert said in retrospect that “I probably passed out”, and Emma also admitted that it was “one of the hardest things” she had ever done.

However, this embarrassing mood was quickly diluted by other emotions.

When Harry was about to say goodbye to his friends to face Lord Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest alone, as actors, they finally realized that it was coming to an end.

In this scene, the emotion released from Emma is not only Hermione’s concern for her best friend, but also her own reluctance and farewell to these ten years of magic.

As an old Harry Potter fan for more than ten years, I have asked myself countless times: Why do I love Harry Potter so much? Why does enthusiasm never dissipate after novels and movies are over?

The final conclusion is – growth and companionship.

Growing up with Harry, Ron, Hermione, not only Daniel, Rupert, Emma, but also us off-screen.

Just a few months or a year or two is enough to get along. The shooting cycle of the “Harry Potter” series is 10 years.

Time falls on everyone so justly that we are both onlookers and witnesses. When Harry first entered Hogwarts, we were equally amazed at what the wizarding world had to offer.

When Harry’s heart swayed for Cho Chang, we also hid an unspeakable figure in our hearts. When Harry ends up fighting Lord Voldemort, we also begin to face many important life choices.

When the children on the screen are drawn into tall and straight boys and girls, they gradually become adults who are independent.

Off-screen we also waved goodbye to childhood and adolescence and threw ourselves into more difficult studies and work.

This kind of growth and companionship is a precious experience that will never happen again in a lifetime.

When we tell our love for “Harry Potter”, what we really love in our hearts is the wonderful time we spent with “Harry Potter”, which is gone forever.

Therefore, although this 20th anniversary special still has many shortcomings.

For example, misplaced childhood photos of Emma and Ivana, marked the names of the Phelps twins, and got into the controversy of not inviting J.K. Rowling (in fact, there was an invitation, but J.K. Rowling had to rush the draft), etc.

But still no Harry Potter fan will miss this precious experience of looking back on the past with the creators.

Thank you for leading us into that radiant, imaginative world. Even if youth is gone, the magical world will last forever.
