Since the announcement of the live-action version of ‘The Little Mermaid’, the issue of casting has been controversial. Recently, in response to this issue, The Little Mermaid played by Halle Bailey responded to the casting questions.
Halle Bailey said she received encouragement from her grandparents, who had been racially abused all their lives, to understand the extraordinary meaning and impact it would have on black girls once they played the role.
She also said that looking back on the past, if the cartoon version of Ariel was a person of color, what would have inspired her as a child.
