Streaming giant Netflix has experienced a number of challenges in the first half of the year, including a large number of lost subscribers and repeated layoffs. Netflix appears to have been working hard to streamline and look to adjust in the face of a falling stock price.
In addition, Netflix has been looking for additional revenue opportunities, including ad support and a crackdown on password sharing, and recently it was reported in the press that the company is considering selling some of its older original series to other networks for syndication reruns.
According to the report, Netflix is considering syndicating some of its older original series to broadcast networks around the world, as just one strategy to increase revenue.
The report also noted that they are also considering placing original films in traditional theaters, but this has not yet been finally decided and is still in the discussion stage yet, without more details on the content.
Netflix has a wide range of original series, and selling some of them would actually do more good than harm – it would benefit viewers who can’t afford or for some reason can’t watch the Netflix platform.
However, this could also lead to a further decline in subscribers or new users, after all, making money is just as important to such a streaming giant.
In addition to improvements like selling original programming, Netflix had announced in April that it was partnering with software giant Microsoft to develop an ad-supported subscription program.
According to them, “Microsoft has the proven ability to support all of our advertising needs. More importantly, Microsoft offers the flexibility for long-term innovation in technology and sales, as well as strong privacy protections for our members.”
