Amazon and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Productions will create a new limited series based on historian Eric Cervini’s “The New York Times” bestseller “The Deviant’s War: The Homosexual vs. The United States.”
Written by Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López (“Succession”), it tells the story of the 1950s when Defense Department astronomer Frank Kameny became a leading figure in the fight for LGBTQ civil rights after he sued the federal government after being fired because he was gay.
The original, a 2021 Pulitzer Prize finalist in the history category, also charts the connection between gay activism and the black freedom movement, the New Left, lesbian rights and transgender resistance, and Kameny co-founded Gay Rights in Washington, D.C. Organize Mattachine Society to protest the persecution of gay federal employees.
