Ana de Armas fans sue Universal’s ‘Yesterday’ teaser for allegedly deceptive marketing

Two fans of Ana de Armas have taken Universal Pictures to court, claiming that the trailer for its 2019 film “Yesterday” featured Armas but did not feature her in the final film.

The matter is suspected of “false, deceptive, misleading” marketing, and they will claim more than $5 million.

Conor Woulfe and Peter Michael both rented “Yesterday” on Amazon Video for $3.99, according to their lawsuit.

Fans of Ana de Armas, who discovered that although Armas was featured in the trailer, had her scene cut from the feature film, said they were asking for more than $5 million in compensation “on behalf of consumers affected by this.”

Their complaint argues that the presence of Armas in the trailer is equivalent to a promise to consumers that she will appear in the film, but not in the feature film, so “such consumers’ behavior of leasing and purchasing the film does not gain any value.”

Armas starred as Roxane in Yesterday, about “If only one person in the world remembered The Beatles…”, the love interest of Jack Malik, played by Himesh Patel.

The plot is that Malik meets Roxane on the James Kimberley Corden show and sings George Harrison’s “Something” to her.

The scene was cut after that and did not appear in the finished film.

Writer Richard Curtis said he loved the scene and that Armas was brilliant and radiant.

But the audience reaction during the film’s preview was that they didn’t like seeing Malik estranged from Lily Jame’s Ellie Appleton.

Therefore, although he was distressed, he also decided to cut this paragraph.
