Behind the scenes of “The French Dispatch”: Wes Anderson leads the crew to experience the French atmosphere by watching French movies.

Wes Anderson’s new film “The French Dispatch” is known as “a love letter to France”.

A few days ago, the film’s photographer Robert Yeman said in an interview that in order to let the crew have a taste of France, Anderson showed them several new wave movies before shooting.

Robert Yeman said: “We watched a lot of movies, books and magazines.” Especially the New Wave movies of that era, it was the highlight of the movies that Anderson asked the crew to watch.

These films include “It’s My Life” by Jean Luc Godard, “Quai des Orfèvres” and “Diaboliques” by Henri-Georges Cruzot, “Le plaisir” by Max Opheles, and Franco “Les Quatre Cents Coups” by Val Truffaut.

Judging from the selection of these new wave movies, Anderson did not choose the “business card” in popular tastes, but chose five relatively small films according to his own preferences.

More importantly, the film uses a 4:3 ratio, which is very retro. Moreover, the color mix and match the black and white color configuration is also very interesting.

In the film, Arthur Howitzer, editor of The French Dispatch, played by Bill Murray, was inspired by Harold Rose, the founding editor of The New Yorker.

Moss, Wilson, and Swindon all play the magazine editor, Brody plays the art dealer, Del Toro plays the imprisoned artist, and Léa Seydoux is in charge of his prison guard and his muse.

The actors involved in the filming are: Benicio del Toro, Francis McDormand, Jeffrey White, Adrian Brody, Timothy Chalamet, Leigh Ya Saidou, Tilda Swinton, Matthew Amalek, Stephen Parker, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and others.

According to the plan, Fox Searchlight will release the film, which will be released on July 24.
