‘Blonde’ media word of mouth lifted: 84% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, 63 points on MTC, 7.5 points on IMDB

The Marilyn Monroe biopic ‘Blonde’, starring Ana de Armas and directed by Andrew Dominik, has been lifted after its premiere in competition at the Venice International Film Festival.

At present, ‘Blonde’ is 84% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (19 ratings, 16 fresh and 3 rotten), MTC is 63 points (15 ratings, 7 good, 8 out of 0), IMDB is 7.5 points, and the highly controversial reputation is expected to continue until the The film’s Oscar season tour.

‘Blonde’ Rotten Tomatoes is 84% fresh

Some excerpts:

‘Total Film’: an uncomfortable viewing experience, but fascinating all the same, with bold extremes that will spark discussion and polarized opinions.

‘The Daily Telegraph’: engulfs you like an unsettling dream, feeling both overly familiar and at the same time so unreal that it stings in your heart.

‘Evening Standard’: (Ana de Armas) captures Monroe’s sensuality and vulnerability, but it’s frustrating that she’s not given much of a chance to show off this woman’s intelligence and humor.

‘TheWrap’: Shifting between deep black and white and bright colors, Dominique’s style is visually mischievous and emotionally cold. One side of this filmmaker’s mouth decries the dangers of becoming a star, while the other celebrates the magic of cinema.

‘Indiewire’: (Dominik) made this film based on Marilyn Monroe, who is monotonously portrayed as a victim in the film.

‘Screen International’: The ‘Blonde’ novel doesn’t dance on Monroe’s grave, but Dominik, who made it into a film, does, and the film he gives everyone, including the audience, is contemptible voyeurism.

‘Decider’: It’s probably the kind of “feel bad” biopic that intends not to inspire pity, but to abuse the viewer. …… This film deserves full consideration for its intellectual merits, not for its ability to stir your emotions. Pretty looks, just like Monroe himself.

The film, Netflix’s first big-scaled NC 17 original, is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name and focuses on Monroe in the 1950s-60s through the lens of modern celebrity culture, and will be available on September 28.
