Last week’s Northern America movie market welcomed a number of new films, Brad Pitt starring in ‘Bullet Train’ $30.1 million to win, but for a $90 million blockbuster, such figures do not look good.
Top Gun: Maverick’ accumulated $662 million at the box office, surpassing ‘Titanic’ to rank seventh in Northern America’s film history.
Northern America grossed only $91.5 million last weekend, making it the weakest week of performance since May.
In the next few weeks, Northern America has no big budget movies to release, and the market that has just recovered is expected to cool down again.
‘Bullet Train’ is based on a Japanese novel and brings together ‘John Wick’ director David Leitch, big star Brad Pitt and others. The film’s $30.1 million opening compounded expectations and was the second best performing R-rated non-sequel film during the epidemic, losing only to the horror film ‘Nope’ with $44 million.
However, the film’s Rotten Tomatoes freshness is only 54%, the popcorn index 77%, CinemaScore score B +, the box office continued to have doubtful power.
This performance of ‘Bullet Train’ is close to that of ‘The Lost City’ released in March this year, which opened with $30.5 million and Northern America accumulated $100 million at the box office.
Fun fact: Brad Pitt guest starred in ‘The Lost City’ and Sandra Bulloc also guest starred in ‘Bullet Train’.
In overseas markets, ‘Bullet Train’ opened to $32.4 million at the box office and $62.5 million worldwide.
The media expects that the film is expected to hit $ 300 million at the global box office, Sony can still barely recover the cost.
The second weekend of ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ got $11.2 million at the box office, and Northern America accumulated $45.1 million, slightly leading ‘The Bad Guys’ with $44.6 million in the same period.
DC’s animated film is currently $83.4 million at the global box office, the film investment of $90 million, the pressure to recover costs is not small.
The horror film ‘Nope’ took in $8.49 million in its third week at the box office, ranking third. The film’s cumulative box office of $97.5 million will surpass $100 million this week, becoming the third Jordan Peele-directed work to exceed $100 million.
‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ took in $7.6 million in its fifth week of release, ranking fourth at the box office. The cumulative box office of $316 million surpassed the final box office of $315 million of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, and the worldwide box office is close to $700 million.
‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ got $7.11 million in its sixth week of release, ranking fifth, with Northern America accumulating $334 million at the box office and $905 million worldwide.
Top Gun: Maverick’ got $7.02 million at the box office in the 11th week, ranking sixth. Northern America accumulated $662 million at the box office over ‘Titanic’, ranking seventh in Northern America film history; its global box office of $1.352 billion, 13th in global film history.
The new A24 release ‘Bodies, Bodies, Bodies’ opened in only 6 theaters, ranking 15th at the box office with $226,000, still a good $38,000 per theater.
