Horror film “Smile‎” Northern America tops this week box office, all-star lineup “Amsterdam” loses both box office and reputation

Paramount’s small-budget horror film ‘Smile’ created Northern America’s second best second weekend of the year, winning back-to-back $17.6 million titles, with the film opening weekend grossing $22.6 million.

The musical comedy ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ opened in second place with $11.5 million, while the new David O. Russell-directed all-star cast film ‘Amsterdam’ finished in third place with $6.5 million, a disastrous failure at the box office.

This October Northern America market is also quite dismal, last weekend’s gross was only $57 million, seven consecutive weeks of grosses below $65 million, 11 consecutive weeks of grosses below $100 million.

I wonder if ‘Halloween Ends’ on October 14 and ‘Black Watkins Adam Watkins’ on October 21 will bring back the heat to the market. (Data source of this article Boxofficemojo)

The low-budget horror flick ‘Smile‎’ was a rare bright spot in the past two weeks. The film won the top spot with $22.6 million in its opening weekend and fell only 22% in the second weekend. It was the second-best second weekend of the year and the best-controlled drop of any horror film this year.

The film’s box office came to $49.9 million after 10 days of release, slightly higher than the $47.4 million of ‘The Black Phone’ in the same period. The latter Northern America total box office of $ 89.9 million, ‘Smile’ want to exceed is not difficult.

‘Smile’ follows Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) as she begins to experience horrific events she can’t explain after witnessing a patient’s bizarre traumatic experience.

When a chilling and terrifying force begins to take over her life, Rose must confront her disturbingly dark past in order to survive and escape her new, fear-filled reality.

The film cost only $17 million and was originally planned to go straight to streaming. After the pilot screenings received positive reviews, it was changed to be released in theaters first.

This is a very good decision, the film has now reached $ 89.89 million at the global box office, giving the distributor Paramount a decent profit.

Compared to the performance of ‘Smile’, several new films performed average, and Sony’s musical comedy ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ released only $11.5 million in its opening weekend.

The film cost $50 million to make and featured ‘The Greatest Showman’ music producer and iconic singer Shawn Mendes, but opened worse than last year’s ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’.

Clifford the Big Red Dog’ has grossed $48.9 million in Northern America and $107 million worldwide, so if ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’ only ends up with such results, it will be quite disappointing for Sony. No doubt quite disappointing.

David O. Russell (‘The Fighter’ ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ ‘American Hustle’) directs a luxurious cast of new films ‘Amsterdam’ is a box office The performance is dismal, Northern America’s opening weekend only received 6.5 million dollars, the global opening weekend also only 10 million dollars.

Set in the 1930s, ‘Amsterdam’ follows three best friends who witness a murder and become suspects as they work together to unravel “one of the most amazing secret conspiracies in American history” and try to figure out what really happened.

The cost of the film is as high as 80 million, and the reputation is not good. It has a freshness of 34% on Rotten Tomatoes, an MTC score of 47, and a CinemaScore score of B.

As a regular in the awards season, David O. Russell has fallen on his face this time, which is called the box office tragedy of the year. The film opened in 3005 theaters at the same time, also equipped with IMAX and other formats, but the audience just did not buy.

Wasting an all-star cast of Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Taylor Swift, Rami Malek, Robert De Niro and John David Washington.

The fourth place in the chart is ‘The Woman King’, which got $5.3 million in its fourth week of release, accumulated $54.12 million in Northern America and $64.12 million worldwide. The film has good word of mouth and will probably have a lot of gains in the awards season.

Northern America has accumulated $38.45 million and $69.25 million worldwide, and the film cost $35 million.

‘Avatar’ re-release got $2.56 million in its third week, ranking sixth. This re-release of the film in Northern America has collected $23.31 million, also helped the global box office exceed $2.9 billion, the first position in global film history is more solid.

The horror film ‘Barbarians’ got $2.18 million in its fifth week of release ranking seventh, Northern America accumulated $36.53 million, and worldwide accumulated $38.17 million.

In terms of award season film spot screenings, Cate Blanchett’s Venice winner ‘TÁR’ was spot screened in four theaters, grossing $160,000 and $40,000 in single theaters.

Cannes’ Palme d’Or ‘Triangle of Sadness’ opened in 10 theaters, grossing $210,000 and $21,000 in single theaters.
