Netflix has announced the title of the sequel to the classic clay animation “Chicken Run”: “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget”. It also announced the first stills and dub lineup, the sequel will be launched in 2023.
Mel Gibson, who was originally the voice of the male protagonist “Rocky”, is no longer returning and will be voiced by Zachary Levi, Ginger is voiced by Thandiwe Newton, and Bella Ramsey is the voice of the two chickens’ daughter Molly.
In addition, numerous actors return to voice their previous roles: Jane Horrocks, Imelda Stauton and Lynn Ferguson.
The film is directed by Sam Fell (“Flushed Away”) and is currently filming “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget”.
The story tells that Ginger and the chicks live on a peaceful island, far from the dangers of the human world.
But Ginger’s happy life seemed to come to an end when Ginger and Rocky hatched a little hen named Molly.
“Chicken Run” was released in 2000, and DreamWorks Animation is the largest partner.
The story pays homage to the prison break film The Great Escape, which holds the worldwide box office record for stop-motion animation ($225 million).
Adelman will continue to co-produce “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget” with longtime collaborator StudioCanal, with Netflix being the film’s largest investor.
