Claire Denis (“High Life””Un beau soleil intérieur”) is shortlisted for the main competition in the new film “The Stars at Noon” starring Joe Alwyn and Margaret Qualley.
Based on Denis Johnson’s novel of the same name, “The Stars at Noon” tells the story of the 1980s, as Nicaragua’s political intrigue and violence continued, and the civil war between Sandinista revolutionaries and U.S.-backed counter-revolutionaries was at its height.
In the bar of a former luxury hotel, a mysterious BP employee disguised as an NGO encounters a struggling female journalist who occasionally uses gimmicks to make ends meet.
The two quickly become entangled, distracted by passion, unaware that more and more danger is approaching them.
