Darren Aronofsky has released stills from his new film ‘The Whale’ , which has been selected for the main competition at the Venice International Film Festival.
‘The Whale’ by Brendan Fraser(“George of the Jungle””The Mummy”), Hong Chau(“Downsizing””Watchmen”), Samantha Morton(“Harlots””The Walking Dead”), Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”), starring Ty Simpkins (“Iron Man 3” “Jurassic World” “Insidious” series), produced by A24.
Based on the play ‘The Whale’ by Samuel D. Hunter, the film tells the story of Charlie, a six-hundred-pound recluse hiding from the world in a rundown apartment in rural Idaho, stubbornly and determinedly trying to eat himself to death.
As Charlie gets closer to his inevitable fate, his friends Liz (a cynical atheist nurse) and Thomas (a young and promising Mormon missionary) both try to find in Charlie the will to be saved, both physically and spiritually.
However, only his daughter Ellie, who is estranged from Charlie, can give him a glimpse of a future beyond his current state of despair.
Although Ellie is sarcastic, hateful, and full of thorns, Charlie is able to find in her one last chance for redemption, and perhaps even a glimmer of hope.
