Depp: It feels like Hollywood is boycotting me, causing “Minamata” to not be released

Johnny Depp, 58, said in a recent interview with foreign media that his new film “Minamata” cannot be released in the United States.

It was because he was boycotted, calling his decline in Hollywood a “media absurdity.”

In a conversation with The Sunday Times, he talked about the recent “five years of untrue” (he and his ex-wife, Amber Heard, divorced in 2016).

“Minamata” is adapted from a book written by W. Eugene Smith and his wife. In 1956, Japan broke out with the strange disease “Minamata disease” caused by mercury pollution.

In the 1970s, W. Eugene Smith, an American journalist played by Depp, came to Japan to record this strange disease on his own behalf.

In addition to Depp, the movie starring also includes Bill Nighy, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Minami, Ryô Kase, Jun Kunimura, etc.

In 2018, the British “Sun” called Depp a “wife-beater” and Depp sued the newspaper for “defamation”.

On November 2, 2020, the British court found that Depp had lost the case. The judge believed that Depp had repeatedly assaulted his ex-wife, Amber Heard, and established 12 of 14 domestic violence charges.

Subsequently, Depp was expelled from the crew of “Fantastic Beasts 3” by Warner.

Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” restarts and no longer finds him.

He no longer participates in the new play “Harry Houdini” produced by Jerry Bruckheimer…

Mentioning “Minamata”, Depp said that he “looked into the eyes of those people and promised that we are not exploiting/exploiting them, and that the movie will be full of respect. I believe we have done this, and those who join later should also abide by them. Promise of.”

Regarding his position in the Hollywood industry, Depp said, “Some movies will move people, and this affects people in “Minamata” and those who are experiencing similar conditions. As for Hollywood’s boycott of me? In the past few years , Is a person, an actor in an unpleasant and chaotic situation?”

Depp also mentioned, “I’m moving in the direction I need, in order to make the facts visible again.”

Recently the film’s director Andrew Levitas also issued an open letter criticizing the release of Fang MGM’s desire to hide the film.

Andrew Levitas wrote: “I don’t understand why the private life of an actor (Depp) is more important than the suffering of industrial pollution victims.
