Following “Soul” and “Luca”, Disney announced today that “Turning Red”, also produced by Pixar, will be launched directly on the Disney+ streaming platform on March 11. Subscribers will not have to pay any additional fees.
Markets without Disney+ may still arrange “Turning Red” theaters, including mainland China.
Last summer, people in the American media broke the news that the decision to launch two consecutive films on Disney+ without additional payment caused the morale of Pixar employees to be very low.
In 2022, Pixar’s works will still be available to streaming media subscribers for free, which is unbearable.
Disney Animation’s own “Raya and The Last Dragon” and Marvel Studios’s “Black Widow”, even for subscribers, need to pay another $30 “Super Member” fee to watch.
Disney Animation’s own “Encanto” was released exclusively in theaters last year.

In contrast, Pixar employees feel that their works are neither qualified for theatrical line, nor for additional fees. This is too hurtful.
Pixar’s last movie to go to theaters was “Onward”, which was released on March 6, 2020.
Only a week later, cinemas across the United States were closed due to the pandemic that swept the world.
Disney subsequently decided to let the film go live on Disney+ a month later, and at the same time postponed “Soul” twice.
“Soul” will be launched directly on Christmas 2020 and won the Oscar in the spring of 2021.

The real problem is that due to the low rate of children’s new crown vaccination, the box office of family carnival movies, especially cartoons, has been greatly affected.
In the past, it was relatively easy for a few large film studios in North America to have a box office of more than 100 million cartoons, but it has become very difficult in the era of epidemics.
Pixar also has a “Lightyear” originally scheduled to land on North American theaters on June 17. “Captain America” Chris Evans will be the voice of Lightyear.
I don’t know what the fate of “Lightyear” will be next.
