The Playlist: With a certain degree of certainty, “Fantastic Beasts” has finally found its footing. This one is the funnest and most enjoyable of this relatively young franchise, enough to actually make you look forward to the next one (if there is one) rather than worrying about it.

Arizona Republic: There are enough eye-catching special effects and lovable critters to keep you entertained for two and a half hours.

“The Globe and Mail”: Even if Yates and the film team made the sensible choice to replace Depp with Mads Mikkelsen, the film was too long.

“The Guardian”: Well-meaning entertainment, but still lacking narrative weight and structure.
