“Pacific Rim” director Guillermo del Toro recently revealed the plot of “Pacific Rim: Uprising” originally developed by him.
In his idea, the protagonist of the sequel is Mako Mori played by Rinko Kikuchi instead of Jake played by John Boyega, and it will also involve plots such as time travel and time paradoxes.
After the launch of “Pacific Rim” in 2013, Guillermo del Toro was already preparing “Pacific Rim: Uprising” for a while.
However, the early stage of this project dragged on for a long time, coupled with the acquisition of Legendary Pictures, the preparation of the film can be described as twists and turns.
Guillermo del Toro withdrew from the “Pacific Rim: Uprising” crew in 2018, Steven S. Denett took over as the director, and the script was changed.
Not long ago, Toro told The Wrap website while promoting his new film “Nightmare Alley” that his “Pacific Rim: Uprising” story involved time travel and time paradoxes.

Toro also stated that Mako Mori, played by Rinko Kikuchi, will be the protagonist of “Pacific Rim: Uprising”.
But she died shortly after she played in “Pacific Rim: Uprising” in 2018, and the protagonist was replaced by Jake played by John Boyega.
