CNN reports that the near-perfect 1986 ‘Back To The Future’ sealed VHS tape recently sold at auction for $75,000, setting a new record for a videotape of its kind at auction.
It is understood that the tape belongs to actor Tom Wilson, who played the role of Biff Tannen in the film. After a huge response on eBay, Wilson took it down and consigned it to Heritage Auctions for auction.
In the end, the tape went to a New York collector for $75,000, “the highest price ever paid for a sealed, graded VHS tape at auction.
Joe Maddalena, executive vice president of Heritage Auctions, said he hopes the auction will revive interest in VHS tapes and encourage more celebrities to share their collections.
