‘House of the Dragon’ director Miguel Sapochnik announces exit, Allen Tyler will direct Season 2

Today, according to media reports, the ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff ‘House of the Dragon’, currently running on HBO MAX, has undergone a major internal staff change, with co-producer and director Miguel Sapochnik exiting the hit series. Game of Thrones’ director Allen Tyler will join in Season 2.

House of the Dragon’ for ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off series directed by Miguel Sapochnik, premiered with nearly 10 million viewers, setting an HBO original series opening ratings record, followed by the announcement that HBO will renew ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2.

Miguel Sapochnik is quitting the show after pouring three years of hard work into ‘House of the Dragon’, sources said.

‘House of the Dragon’ co-creator Ryan Condal will now serve as the show’s sole showrunner and continue to work closely with co-creator George R.R. Martin. Following the exit, Sapochnik signed a preliminary agreement with HBO to develop the new project.

In addition, the production has hired another acclaimed ‘Game of Thrones’ director Allen Tyler as executive producer, who will direct multiple episodes in Season 2.

Miguel Sapochnik said in a statement, “Working in the powerhouse universe has been an honor over the past few years, especially the last two years spent with the amazing cast and crew of ‘House of the Dragon,’ and I am so proud of what we have accomplished on Season 1 I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished and ecstatic about the enthusiastic response from the audience. The decision to make a change was tough, but I know it was the right choice for me personally and professionally.”

Speaking of Allen Tyler, he said, “I was very pleased to learn that Allen would be joining the series. He’s someone I’ve known and respected for a long time, and I’m very comfortable with him at the helm of this series. It’s great to be a part of the show in the end, and I wish Ryan and his team success and all the best for Season 2 and beyond.”

Allen Tyler said, “I’m thrilled and honored to be back at HBO. I look forward to working closely with Ryan on Season 2. Returning will be a daunting task and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
