‘House of the Dragon’ premiered yesterday and set a new record, attracting nearly ten million viewers

Today, according to media sources, the ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off ‘House of the Dragon’ set a new record yesterday with its premiere on HBO. The show attracted a cumulative 9,986,000 viewers on the streaming platform, the largest audience for an original series in the history of paid programming.

As we reported yesterday, ‘House of the Dragon’ premiered to an overwhelming popularity, crushing the HBO MAX app.

And according to today’s statistics, ‘House of the Dragon’ premiered with more viewers than ‘Game of Thrones’ premiered in 2011, even reaching 350% of the number of viewers then.

Of course, there was no streaming presence like HBO Max when ‘Game of Thrones’ started in 2011, so the numbers will vary widely.

And, the premiere of ‘House of the Dragon’ also marked the launch of HBO Max’s largest series in the U.S., Latin America and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and triggered an unprecedented concurrent stream of HBO programming.

According to HBO data, the usual Sunday night HBO audience only accounts for 20-40% of the ‘House of the Dragon’ audience.

House of the Dragon’ is a spin-off prequel to ‘Game of Thrones’, based on George Raymond Richard Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’. The story takes place two hundred years ago, and its focus will be on House of Targaryen.

The story will follow the decline of the House of Targaryen and the family civil war known as ‘Danceof the Dragons’ in 10 episodes, available now on HBO Max.
