IFC Films has secured Northern America distribution rights to the new film “Corsage” starring Vicky Krieps, which premiered to critical acclaim at Cannes.
Director Marie Kreutzer (“Das Fräulein””Der Boden unter den Füßen”) focuses on Elisabeth, Queen of Austria, adored for her beauty and known for inspiring fashion trends.
But in 1877, Elisabeth celebrated her 40th birthday and had to maintain her public image by tying her corset tighter and tighter.
Elisabeth’s role goes against her will and becomes purely performative, her thirst for knowledge and zest for life making her increasingly restless in Vienna.
She travels to England and Bavaria, visiting old lovers and friends, seeking the excitement and purpose of her youth.
With strict ceremonial duties in front of her in the future, Elisabeth rebels against her exaggerated image and proposes a plan to preserve her legacy.
