Not long ago Bruce Willis announced his retirement due to illness, and Jim Carrey, another Hollywood comedy king in the 1990s, is also considering retirement.
The 60-year-old recently said when promoting “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”: “I’m retiring and thinking about it quite seriously.”
Jim Carrey still didn’t say too much, he said that if there is a good script, he would not mind returning, but he really likes the current quiet life: “If the angel brings me the script written in golden ink again, it makes me feel ‘Getting people to see this story’ is really important and I’ll probably continue but I’m taking a break. I really love my quiet life and swipe on canvas. What I have is already Enough, enough done, I’m full.”
Jim Carrey was one of the hottest comedy stars of the 1990s, starring him in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”, “Dumb and Dumber”, “The Mask”, “Liar Liar” and a series of box office hits Miracle.
Over the next few years, Jim Carrey wanted to be an actor while starring in some high-concept mainstream hit comedies like “Bruce Almighty.”
Hence the dark comedy The Cable Guy and the challenging “The Truman Show”, “Man on the Moon”, “The Majestic” and the can’t-miss “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”.
After Jim Carrey turned fifty, he slowly faded out of the public eye – although he returned as Lloyd Christmas in “Dumb and Dumber 2”, he didn’t technically have a lot of roles.
At the same time, he started appearing in alternative films such as “The Bad Batch” and “True Crimes”.
He served as the producer of the critically acclaimed “I’m Dying Up Here,” a true take on the 1970s Los Angeles talk show.
After that, Carey turned his focus to painting, which he has always loved.
In 2018, he starred in his best work of nearly a decade, the comedy series “Kidding”, and in 2020, he starred in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” series.
