After collecting a lot of awards and praise, the musical romance ‘La La Land’ will be adapted into a Broadway musical.
According to media reports, the musical will be developed by the film’s original producer Lionsgate and producer Marc Platt, while the cast’s soundtrack artist Justin Hurwitz and lyricist Benj Pasek and Justin Paul return to compose the music.
The musical is directed by Bartlett Sher (‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ ‘Oslo’) and the story is based on the books by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker.
‘La La Land’ was released in 2016, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling and directed by Damien Chazelle, about an aspiring actress and a jazz musician who pursue their dreams in Los Angeles.
The film won six Oscars for best actress, director, song and other awards, with a cost of $30 million to harvest the global box office 447 million.
In a previous interview, Damien Chazelle said the film is a love letter to Los Angeles: “There’s something incredibly charming about Los Angeles, something you don’t find when you’re stuck in traffic. I wanted to give the city a love letter, focusing on young artists who are floating and pulling between their dreams and reality. It’s a city full of people who want to make their dreams come true, but most of them don’t end up living their dreams, and I find that quite poetic.”
