Lena Dunham (‘Girls’) wrote and directed the new film ‘Catherine, Called Birdy’ released stills and the film announced that it will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
‘Catherine, Called Birdy’ is based on Karen Cushman’s novel starring Bella Ramsey, Billie Piper, Andrew Scott, Joe Alwyn, and Dean-Charles Chapman.
The film follows the adventures of Catherine, a young girl in medieval England: her father, who arranged her marriage, is determined to marry her to a rich man, regardless of any other qualities.
With wit, subterfuge and luck, Catherine manages to get a few prospective husbands to leave. She then meets a bearded suitor from the north who is by far the oldest, ugliest and most offensive – and unfortunately, the richest.
Would a sharp-tongued, spirited, intelligent, opinionated young girl really lose a battle against a rude, pig-like aristocrat and an unimaginative, greedy father?
