According to foreign media reports, Magnolia Pictures has won the US distribution rights to the epic “The King’s Land” starring Mads Mikkelsen, which will start shooting in Denmark, Germany and the Czech Republic in September.
In the film, Mikkelsen will play King Frederick V of Denmark.
“The King’s Land” is based on the Danish bestseller Kaptajnen og Ann Barbara, which is “a gripping tale of conquering the Danish wilderness”.
The story is set in the mid-17th century and revolves around King Frederick V of Denmark, who declares that the wilds of Jutland should be tamed, cultivated and colonized so that civilization can spread and new taxes can be levied for the royal family.
Nikolaj Arcel, who worked with Mikkelsen on “En kongelig affære”, is directing the film, Anders Thomas Jensen (“Retfærdighedens ryttere” “Efter brylluppet”) is writing the script, and Amanda Collin (“Raised by Wolves”) will also be involved. .
Sold by TrustNordisk, the film is produced by Danish production giant Zentropa and produced by top Danish producer Louise Vesth.
