Last weekend Northern America celebrated the “Independence Day” slot, ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ took in $108.5 million in the first three days of the weekend (estimated), counting last Monday’s holiday box office will reach $127.9 million, which will Break the highest opening record of the Independence Day slot set by ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ in 2011.
‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ is the fifth installment in Illumination’s ‘Despicable Me’ series, opening in as many as 4,931 Northern America theaters with a single theater average of $22,000.

Although slightly lower than ‘Minions’ 2015 opening of $115.7 million, this performance of ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ is still impressive considering this year’s competitors such as ‘Elvis’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Lightyear’.
